TRUMPET

Beginning Trumpet Lessons music.4.life Charlotte NC
The trumpet (and cornet) is the smallest and highest member of the brass family, and its sound is produced by the vibration of the player's lips against a mouthpiece.

The trumpet family includes both instruments derived from animal horn, or of large conch shells in some cultures.  Around 1400, the former straight trumpet was folded into an S-shape, and about a hundred years later was coiled into an elongated loop.  It remained that way until the early 1800s when valves were added, which upon opening added more length of tubing and lowered pitch.  The modern trumpet has three valves.

The trumpet is a versatile and widely used instrument, being used in bands, symphony orchestras, jazz groups and small instrumental groups, as well as performing solos and melodic lines.

AGE TO START
Children should be at least 9 years old to physically handle these instruments.  They are not available in smaller sizes like violins and guitars.  The arms and fingers must be large and long enough to reach keys and cover holes.  Also, the breath quantity and control needed to produce a tone require physical maturity, coordination and patience!  Unfortunately our local schools do not offer band and orchestral instrument study until grade 6, but at music.4.life, we can give your child a good start on these instruments before they reach middle school.

music.4.life offers Beginning Trumpet instruction through their Homeschool Band program.

TRUMPET FACULTY
Beginning Trumpet lessons are also offered by Nancy Bain.
