John Gurske, Guitar and Bass

Picture
Jazz guitarist and arranger, John has been teaching for thirteen years. With a degree in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, he was mentored in Richard Davis' unique Black Music Ensemble and is a loyal "Badger" fan.

After giving up a a long time career in computer sales, he founded the "Family Music Studio of Dilworth" with his wife Betsy in 1998. His large student following in the Charlotte area began here and has grown to fifty private students weekly for many years now. Being a uniquely well-rounded musician, he gives students a solid grounding in the fundamentals of musicianship, yet adapts his teaching to their taste in different musical genres.

Last summer he piloted an "in the home" rock band coaching camp and a musical jam class with autistic teens. Friday night jam sessions will be starting under his direction in March 2010.

Having mentored his daughter in jazz, he has performed with her at several Tosco Music parties and at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. He created "music.4.life" with his wife Betsy in the Fall of 2009.
